Studying Languages at Fremantle College provides students with the opportunity to develop communication skills while gaining a deeper understanding of global cultures and perspectives. Through the study of Italian, students build their ability to listen, speak, read and write in another language, while also developing confidence, curiosity and intercultural awareness. Learning a language supports critical thinking, problem solving and adaptability, helping students to become informed and globally aware citizens.
Italian is a compulsory subject in Years 7 and 8, with students able to continue their studies through Years 9 and 10. The program is designed to progressively build students’ skills, beginning with everyday topics such as greetings, personal information, family and hobbies, and extending to more complex areas including daily routines, food, travel, social interactions and contemporary issues. As students progress, they develop greater accuracy and fluency, including the use of past and future tenses.
Students demonstrate their learning through a range of authentic and engaging tasks, including written work, listening activities, conversations and oral presentations. The Languages program provides a strong foundation for further study in Years 11 and 12 and supports students in developing skills that are valuable for future pathways, travel and global engagement.
